| Description: | Bright, energetic girls - just like you - from all around United States and Canada helped the National Academy of Engineering with this site by serving as our Advisory Board. You can find out more about them by following the link above to the details about the advisory board. The Engineer Girl website is part of the NAE's Celebration of Women in Engineering project. This project tries to bring national attention to the opportunity that engineering represents to all people at any age, but particularly to women and girls. The Celebration is the first of several projects focusing on gender and diversity in the engineering workforce. The Celebration of Women in Engineering is sponsored in part by grants from the AT&T Foundation, Southern Company, and Texas Utilities. The purpose of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) is to promote technological welfare of the nation by marshaling the knowledge and insights of eminent members of the engineering profession. The NAE was established in 1964, under the charter of the National Academy of Sciences, as a parallel organization of outstanding engineers. It is autonomous in its administration and in the selection of its members, sharing with the National Academy of Sciences the responsibility for advising the federal government. The NAE also sponsors engineering programs aimed at meeting national needs, encourages education and research, and recognizes the superior achievements of engineers. Dr. William A. Wulf is president of the NAE. You can find out more about the NAE by visiting our website: www.nae.edu The Celebration of Women in Engineering is a special section of the EngineerGirl website providing information and resources for parents, teachers, and other mentors. Original content and collected links help people in each of these groups to encourage girls in math and science and support girls pursuit engineering careers. |
