| Description: | "Forest engineers apply engineering and forestry principles to solve the world's forestry challenges, with a goal of supporting sustainable forests which are both socially and environmentally responsible. They focus on protection of soil, water, air, and other renewable and non-renewable resources. Paper engineers combine training in chemical and physical sciences and chemical engineering as applied to pulp and paper processing. It emphasizes the application of mathematics, chemistry, and engineering to the pulp and paper industry. Preparation Those interested in a career in forest or paper engineering should consider reviewing engineering programs that are accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET). ABET accreditation is based on an evaluation of an engineering program's student achievement, program improvement, faculty, curricular content, facilities, and institutional commitment. Forest engineering students take courses such as Soil Mechanics and Foundations, Water Pollution Engineering, Forest Engineering Planning and Design, Harvest Systems Analysis, and Power Systems. The following is a partial list of universities offering accredited degree programs in forest engineering." |
