| Description: | With the campaign "1000 cities, 1000 lives", events for World Health Day 2010 will be organized worldwide during the week of April 7 11. The global goals of the campaign are to open up public spaces to health, whether it be activities in parks, town hall meetings, clean-up campaigns, or closing off portions of streets to motorized vehicles, and to collect 1000 stories of urban health champions who have taken action and had a significant impact on health in their cities. World Health Day 2009 focused on the resilience and safety of health facilities and health workers who treat those affected by emergencies. Events around the world highlighted successes, advocated for safe facility design and construction, and built momentum for widespread emergency preparedness. Protecting health from climate change In 2008, World Health Day focused on the need to protect health from the adverse effects of climate change. The health impacts of climate change are already evident in different ways. These impacts will be disproportionately greater in vulnerable populations, which include the very young, elderly, medically infirm, poor and isolated populations. |
