This presentation is the culmination of a year of work by a diverse group of 40 deans, department chairs/heads, and senior faculty. After attending conferences with programming about diversity in the professoriate program participants attended a three-day writing retreat. The culmination of this effort are several products on one CD: the Dean's Guide to Diversity, the Department Chair's/Head's Guide to Diversity, and a set of powerpoint presentation slides that could be used by faculty and academic administrators to convince their peers of the merits of engaging in various "best practices" to increase faculty diversity. While many other excellent guides to diversity have been published, these products feature the "voice" of faculty and academic administrators who have actually implemented and worked with the practices suggested by others." |
