| Description: | Gas turbine performance simulation software is a free "entry level" version of a very sophisticated commercial program. It simulates turbojet, turboshaft, turboprop, and turbofan engines. It allows the user to perform parametric studies of gas turbine engine performance, and is a very impressive tool for both students and educators alike. It introduces the software GasTurb which makes the simulation of gas turbines for aircraft propulsion and for power generation easy. GasTurb offers a wide variety of predefined engine configurations, thus allowing an immediate start of the calculation. The program makes the most frequent tasks, which performance engineers typically encounter, easy and straightforward. Parametric studies, Monte Carlo simulations and cycle optimization tasks can be completed in a small fraction of the time which is needed with many other performance programs. The same is true for engine test analysis (either conventional or model based test analysis), for finding the effects of small changes, for estimating the influence of inlet flow distortion on compressor stability and the operating line excursions in the component maps that happen during transient operation. In addition to the GasTurb program there are some useful utilities that help with rarely loved background work like preparing component maps for performance simulations and checking the results.
