| Description: | California-based organization whose mission is to increase the impact of women on technology and to increase the positive impact of technology on women's lives. Formerly called the Institute for Women and Technology, it now bears the name of its distinguished founder, Anita Borg. Includes information about its initiatives and links to related sites. The Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology: (1) Provides platforms so that women's voices, ideas, and spirits are able to influence technology. (2) Is a global resource for industry, academia, and government to help them identify, attract, develop and retain women leaders in technology and (3) Engages and empowers women. Systers was started by Anita Borg and is the worlds largest email community of technical women in computing. It was founded by Anita Borg in 1987 as a small electronic mailing list for women in systems. Today, Systers broadly promotes the interests of women in the computing and technology fields. Anita created Systers to increas[e] the number of women in computer science and mak[e] the environments in which women work more conducive to their continued participation in the field. (Read Why Systers?) It serves this purpose by providing women a private space to seek advice from their peers, and discuss the challenges they share as women technologist. |
