| Description: | "Frank S. Barnes joined the University of Colorado in 1959, where he is currently a Distinguished Professor. In addition to co-founding the Interdisciplinary Telecommunications Program, he has taught in the areas of optical electronics, bioelectromagnetics, and optical communications. He has supervised more than 30 Ph.D. and 200 M.S. thesis students on a wide range of subjects, from optical fiber design to the design of rural telephone systems for third world countries. He holds thirteen patents and has authored more than 150 papers. Dr. Barnes has been awarded the Curtis McGraw Research Award from American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE), the Leon Montgomery Award from the International Communications Association, the 2003 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Education Society Achievement Award, and the 2002 Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Distinguished Educator Award from ASEE. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), IEEE, and the International Engineering Consortium and a member of the National Academy of Engineering." |
