| Description: | Test Project (ASTP) was the first space mission to be undertaken as a joint effort between the United States and the Soviet Union. While the flight itself lasted only nine days, from 15-24 July 1975, the planning for it stretched back to 1970. The mission was a resounding success for both nations. Techniques for future joint space efforts were practiced and a number of joint scientific experiments conducted. The mission was a success, not only as a space flight, but also as a practical expression of the cooperation that existed at the time between the United States and Soviet Union.
