| Description: | The Green Education Foundation, a non-profit, was founded in early 2008 with the goal of promoting and enhancing the state of environmental education in our K-12 schools today. They also sponsor National Green Week from Feb. 2 till Earth Day. Their curricula website is broken down into elementary, middle and high school components. There are also supplementary videos and other resources. K-12 education is a major shaper of the truths, attitudes, ethics, concepts, and behaviors of American society. We believe that by reshaping educational curriculum so that it systematically and effectively fosters environmental awareness, our society will be able to make greater progress towards the achievement of a sustainable world. Green Education Foundation's (GEF) mission is to provide educational resources that promote sustainable, impactful pro-green habits and practices in children, families, and communities. Over 256 million tons of trash is produced annually in the United States, much of it contaminating our oceans, air, and fresh water sources. GEF is working to impede these alarming statistics by sponsoring national public awareness campaigns to empower children with the education and skills needed to help address these monumental problems.Conceived to engage communities of school aged children, National Green Week and the I Ride Green and I Play Green campaigns are designed to: * Stimulate family-based green practices. * Integrate green activities, projects and exercises into class-based curricula. * Jumpstart new school environmental initiatives. * Encourage children and adults to ride green * Engage sports teams to play green. |
