| Description: | Extended abstract by student project team in UC Berkeley's CEE 292A - Technologies for Sustainable Societies. The purpose of the project was to see how lawmakers and regulators are using life-cycle assessment(LCA) in their policy decisions. In particular, we it would be interesting to investigate the California Air Resources Boards (CARB or ARB) claims that it used a life-cycle approach to calculate carbon intensities for fuels encompassed in the Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS). In order to provide context in our class presentation, our investigation focused on four main areas: an introduction to AB 32, and introduction to LCA, how the LCFS uses LCA and suggestions for how to improve the effectiveness of the LCA approach taken by ARB. |
